Why "Waffle" Party?

Severance creators could have chosen any dessert. Why "waffle"?

In Apple TV+'s series Severance at the end of a quarter one person becomes the refiner of that quarter and enjoys a waffle party. The waffle party takes place at Kier Eagan's replica house at the Perpetuity Wing. This party is held after work hours. The chosen refiner arrives at Kier Eagan's house, and when he walks in he is greeted by a table setting containing three square Belgian waffles, a square stick of butter, a carafe of syrup, and a small goblet of milk. The refiner then enjoys the waffles.

Waffles were served as the last blessing given after meals in the Catholic Church in the Middle Ages. The “last” here makes the waffle suitable for the celebration at the end of the quarter. But there is another and more important reason. In the Middle Ages, scenes about Jesus were drawn on waffles, but today's waffles have squares on them. The view of many squares within a square explains why the waffle is chosen. The square is the symbol of being whole. It is a symbol of completion. Even the refiners butter is perfectly square.

When the refiner finishes the waffles, he finds a message that says: GO NOW TO THE FOUNDER’S BED. The refiner then finds himself in a show with 4 masked dancers. These are Frolic, Woe, Dread, and Malice. Woe is a bride, Frolic is a fool, Dread is a crone, and Malice is a ram. These also correspond to indicators in 5 digital buckets where they accumulate numbers in their files.

When Harmony Cobel asks who he wants to attend the party, Mark says that Dylan G. deserves this award and that it is more his thing. So why is Dylan G. the most suitable person for this job? Why is he the first one to wake up outside before others? Dylan G. symbolizes the body. The body has the link both to the "inside" and the "outside". Therefore, Dylan G. proves his wholeness as the body that unites the inside and the outside by doing the job of turning the switches by himself, which is a job that can be done by 2 people. Dylan G. is “reintegrated” here. And of course, since it the the body that deserves to eat, waffles are Dylan's thing.

At the same moment with the waffle party, “Harmony” Cobel is fired from her job. Why? Because there is no longer a need for someone to "harmonise" the inside and the outside. The body has taken its place. Whose place? The mother's place. It is the mother who ensures the harmony between the unborn child and the outside world. She is the only person who communicates with both parties. Dylan takes on this task and then what's inside is born outside, meaning they become “innies” outside of their job.
Now that we've cleared that up, I can come clean. I don't like eating waffles. See you at other perspectives.
